Archive for June, 2007Registration Open!Registration for the 2008 edition of Primal Quest is now open Please visit the Race Registration page for all of the important details. The online form will be available This Date in PQ History2006 - The fifth and sixth days of racing meant little sleep for those at HQ. After a dramatic night on the final ropes section, Team Nike/PowerBlast won a tight race, crossing the finish line less than 22 minutes ahead of second place GoLite/Timberland. Meanwhile, the race for many continued. Twelve hours after Nike finished, Backpacker Magazine editor, Jon Dorn and Team Bulleit, were hanging out in Moab waiting for the “dark zone” to clear. Listen to his podcast! Sneak Peek Race Details! While the exact location of the race must remain a secret until the fall of 2007, several states are currently running neck and neck. If you do not have firm summer vacation plans, you may wish to visit places like (in no particular order of significance other than it is an alphabetical list) Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, or Nevada. Participants can expect as epic a race as Utah and exposure to totally different environments. They will race for five to ten days over 400 – 600 miles of gnarly terrain. In addition to the classic elements of AR: mountain biking, trekking, and paddling, next year racers will face extraordinary sections of whitewater swimming and mountaineering. This Date in PQ History2006: Day three of the race meant more desert heat, but also a chance for many teams to get on the water in either the white water swim leg or another paddle. Primal Quest is an environmentally friendly, ecologically aware wilderness Expedition Adventure Race®. Successfully finishing requires much more than stamina and mental fortitude. It requires selfless teamwork, spirit and absolute determination. Primal Quest, RedefinedPrimal Quest has been called the Crown Jewel of Adventure Racing, living up to this name in both quality of race and financial expenditure. Recent decisions by Bill and Denise Watkins (founders of PQ) and Don Mann and Dawn Taylor-Mann (Director and Chief Operations Officer of PQ) will give this legendary race an opportunity to continue its billing as the greatest adventure race as well as change the financial structure so that it may remain viable in 2008 and beyond.
