Today Primal Quest released its second official Competitor Newsletter, and with it, the location of the 2008 race.
The full newsletter is now available on the Team Resources section of the website and contains lots of exciting details and updates.
The following is a letter from Don Mann announcing Primal Quest Montana…
Dear Adventurers,
It is my honor and great pleasure to welcome you to Primal Quest Montana, the “World’s Most Challenging Human Endurance Competition.” In less than 7 months you will gather at the starting line with many of the world’s finest adventure racers and set out to compete in an epic adventure. On behalf of the entire Primal Quest Management and Operations Team I want to express just how excited we are for your team to join us in the mountains of The Big Sky State.
Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, and Arizona were also in contention to host Primal Quest in 2008. While any of these states could have produced spectacular races, our Montana course, in my opinion, is second to none. I can promise that you will love this course and will never forget it!
Because this year’s race is a supported event, it made sense that we should create a more challenging course than we did with Primal Quest Utah. While the Utah course was demanding with its very hot temperatures (112 -116 degrees at times) and a desert that had a way of draining all energy reserves from the competitors, the Montana course will present new demands on your bodies. Teams will face less harsh weather, but unrelenting climbs on both foot and bike.
In Primal Quest Montana you can expect to climb over 100,000 feet (Everest x 3), you will paddle and swim in big white water and you will perform world-class mountain navigation. The pain and the suffering you will encounter will be made even more rewarding by the never-ending 360 degree vistas of absolutely beautiful, rugged and remote terrain.
The few people you may encounter while racing in this remote region of the Rockies will be good, down-to-earth, friendly Montana folks who will most likely cheer you on and applaud your efforts through your arduous journey. Your support crews will be a very big part of your team and you will have a number of opportunities throughout the course to spend time with them. They should anticipate comforting and treating some very tired, hungry, and exhausted teammates at the assisted check points/transition areas.
Every member of our staff is always more than eager to assist you in getting to the starting line. If you have general questions on the race, lodging, transportation please contact Chris and/or Jamie Webster, Primal Quest Managers of Competitor Relations. If you have questions on the skill certificates, contact Chris Caul, Primal Quest Course Director. For questions or issues regarding media please contact Brian Knight, Primal Quest Media Director. Interested sponsor partners can contact Sherry Simpson, Primal Quest Sponsor Director.
We have spent the last 10 months working with sponsors, the host venue, the media, course design, and permitting. As soon as we get authorization from the state and the permitting agencies we will provide you with more specific details on recommended airports for scheduling your flights and will provide you with lodging information.
In addition to our Management and Operations Team, volunteers from 27 different countries will welcome and support racers at Primal Quest Montana. I feel deeply indebted to the volunteers who will be working with us in Montana. These unselfish individuals, who take time from their families and work to support these events, always greatly impress me.
We are still working very diligently to secure a TV contract and are in promising discussions. As you all know, TV is required to keep our great sport growing. Television will help you and the race itself in securing sponsorship, and most importantly, it will show the world just what amazing athletes you all are. You are the un-sung heroes of the sporting world and TV can only help shed some well-deserved light on those who participate in one of the world’s most difficult events. We promise to do all we can to secure television coverage and to get as much media as we can for 2008. You deserve it, the race deserves it, and the sport of adventure racing deserves it.
We look forward to seeing you in Montana and until then wish you many months of great training and adventure.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, a Happy Holiday Season, and a Happy New Year.
Regards,
Don D. Mann

I have been through the mountains of Montana…I couldn’t imagine a better place for this race to be! Well, Alaska, but that wasn’t even in the running. Next year.

I’m ecstatic to have PQ in my Home State and back yard. i can’t wait for the staff assignments to come out. If the course is where I think it is based on the description, it’s going to be AWESOME.
