Primal Quest Badlands Presented by SPOT has generated a huge amount of interest and enthusiasm within South Dakota and around the world as athletes from 14 countries have come to compete in this epic 600-mile expedition adventure race. Local fans have been eager to learn more about race activities and viewing opportunities, so race management has offered to announce the location of the start of the race early. Typically, course details are kept secret until the evening before the race starts due to the navigational aspect of the 10-day, non-stop competition.
Despite the early August 14, 5:30 am start, spectators are encouraged to cheer on the athletes at the start line on Ricard Road in Meade County. Those who will be driving in from Rapid City should follow these directions:
- Take I-90 W toward Gillette
- Take exit 46 for Elk Creek R. (.2 mi)
- Turn right at Elk Creek Rd. (signs for Elk Creek Rd. (5.6 mi)
- Turn left at County Hwy. MC7 – Ricard Rd. (2.6 mi)
- Park BEHIND the caravan of buses and other vehicles
The people of Rapid City and South Dakota have been extremely gracious and enthusiastic and we’re pleased to share the excitement of Primal Quest with all who are interested.
A list of spectator sites and estimated time of team arrivals will be announced on the www.ecoprimalquest.com site the evening of Thursday, Aug. 13 after the pre-race brief at the historic Elks Theater in downtown Rapid City.
