Thank You South Dakota!

Final Push is on to Prepare for Race Start

Think the teams should get a good night of sleep before their 600+ mile race starts around 5:30 tomorrow morning?  Think again – no sleep for the teams tonight!  First, they need to get all their gear into U-Haul trucks ready to deliver them to the appropriate transition areas.  No mistakes here — if you put your biking gear on the ropes truck, you might have a hard time lugging your bike up the sheer rock face at the climb site (similar difficulties may be encountered trying to ride your ropes on the hundred plus miles of backwoods singletrack).  Deadline for boxes being packed up is 10pm, but it won’t be time for sleep yet.  Teams are busy analyzing the course maps, plotting the journeys they’ll be taking – and the strategies they’ll employ – during the next 5-10 days of hiking, biking, running, kayaking, climbing, caving, orienteering, and who knows what else.  If that’s not enough, they will have to pack up all of their non-race gear for storage at race headquarters no later than 2am.

Good luck to all the teams, who will be leaving the plush accomodations of the Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza at 3am (right after the hotel sends them off with a burrito and coffee breakfast)  to make their way through the wilds of South Dakota!
