Early this morning, the teams competing in Primal Quest Badlands presented by SPOT loaded on to busses and were transported to a remote area outside of Rapid City.

The sun was still creeping over the grassy hills when two mounted cowboys arrived on the scene, with six guns on their hips and Winchesters in hand. The race was scheduled to get underway at 5:30 AM local time, and it wasn’t long after that point that the two horseman took out their guns and fired into the air, officially starting the 2009 Primal Quest Expedition Race.

The teams are now out on the course, which begins with a 26.2 mile run, which is followed by the first of several orienteering sections. After that, it’s on to the bikes, with just 574 mile to go until the finish line. You’ll be able to track all the action using the SPOT leaderboard and tracking system, which will offer up to the minute information on where teams stand
