Update and Leaderboard Notes

Ten teams have started on the MyTopo Trek Orienteering section — keep in mind that because CPs 1 and 2 are so close together, the leaderboard may be temporarily incorrect at times. This is because each team is tracked by their SPOT Satellite systems, which automatically show teams as “checked in” when they come within yards of a checkpoint. Normal variations in where teams set up and satellite estimates, some teams may be shown as reaching CP2 early. When in doubt, follow the team tracks on the map for a better idea of exactly where the teams stand.
In related news, Team 21 SMAC/SOLAR, after finding their way back on course, have missed a second left turn and are off course again! While the rest of the field should be through CP1 within the next hour or so, Team 21 will have to get back on track and make up some time and distance. But remember, this is only the first 26.2 miles — about 4 percent of the 600 mile race. They may be having a bad start, but there’s a long way to go and plenty of miles to make up the lost time.
