Update: Teams Kickapoo Scouts and SMAC/SOLAR Continue Unranked after Injuries
Posted on 08/17/09 12:38 AM| by Osprey
Team SMAC/SOLAR is continuing the race unranked following the withdrawl of one of their teammates due to injury. The racer is fine and the injury was not serious, but they are unable to continue further.
In a continuing theme for Primal Quest Badlands presented by SPOT, the racer was assisted by a local citizen who had been closely following the race and happened to be at the checkpoint 13 – Dutchman’s Launch on Deerfield Lake – when the team arrived. Throughout the bike ride, the racer wore down the pads on their bike to the point that they were ineffective. This led to a nasty crash. Though they were able to walk without assistance and likely have relatively minor injuries, they are severe enough that the athlete could no longer continue with the race. The injured team member was driven to CP18, which had medical staff at hand, by a local resident from ACME Bike Shop, one of the many South Dakotans who has taken an avid interest in the race.
The earlier report that Team Kickapoo Scouts had withdrawn or were continuing unranked were incorrect.

Can you tell me what happened with Kickapoo Scouts? I did some training with them (Montgomery County, MD) and was really pulling for them. Any news on who was injured and extent of injuries would be helpful.
Thanks
