Professional Resume Marie-Christine L. Rumohr (“Chris”)
Motto: Everyone is an Adventure Racer; they just don’t know it yet!
Personal Statement: Adventure racing is a big circle. Whether you race, direct, volunteer or support, I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to be in the circle because I know the joy that Adventure Racing has brought me and I want to share it with everyone!
Who am I? I am a single mom of one son who is currently serving in the United States Coast Guard in San Diego, California. I am a volunteer member of the Shenandoah Mountain Search & Rescue Group, based out of Virginia and a Wilderness First Responder. I am a paralegal who has worked in law in the Northern Virginia area for over 19 years, specializing in civil litigation, and I am an adventure racer!I am the creator and keeper of The A List™, the National Capital area’s largest informational active clearing house for adventure racing training and racing, providing service to nearly 300 racers in the area and nationwide. The A List™ is a 100% free service which continually hosts free training events and race simulations (or Diets) for all levels of adventure racers in the area - from those who have never raced before all the way to veteran Eco Challenge athletes. The A List™ provides continual top grade training opportunities for every discipline needed in an adventure race – often times led by the areas top climbers, bikers, paddlers and endurance runners. The athletes and race directors enjoy complete accessibility to me 24/7 and I have often come to the aid of an adventure racer or director during a last minute crisis - whether an adventure racer needs a last minute team mate or support crew or a director is short of volunteers.
My History: I started adventure racing over 8 years ago and have raced, directed, co-directed, supported, and volunteered for literally hundreds of races in that time. In 2003 I won the Nissan Xterra East Coast Nationals for my age group and qualified Xterra Worlds Championship. I have won precious few, happily finished many and humbly DNF’d a couple of adventure races during these past 5 years. What adventure racing has given to me: The lessons learned from adventure racing has left an indelible mark on my perspective and how I conduct myself in everyday life. Adventure racing has given me the opportunity to witness first-hand many top athletes on the same course as my team, but just as importantly, I have had the privilege of also witnessing the unsung heroes—the everyday ordinary human beings transformed into Super Humans with a seemingly limitless capacity for endurance, flexibility, as a well as an ability to adapt to a particular condition to overcome challenges, all with great grace and much humor.
My gift back to adventure racing: I love adventure racing and adventure racers and dedicate much of my waking hours to promoting all aspects of adventure racing. I truly enjoy providing consulting and marketing services for many area race companies, Odyssey Adventure Racing, EX2 Adventures, G-O-A-L-S, RacingAhead.com, Ambush Adventure Racing, Big Blue Adventure Racing, Raceday, Inc., and Greenbrooke Racing. I have worked with the state of Maryland and other governmental agencies and communities in researching the possibility of an expedition length adventure through their state. I have worked extensively with companies in the design, direction, and implementation of several short sprint adventure races in Virginia and Maryland. I have co-directed the Odyssey Adventure Racing Double/Triple Iron Triathlon as well as served as the Club Volunteer Coordinator and Corporate Training Director for Odyssey Adventure Racing. For three years I co-directed directed the very popular Virginia based Josh’s Diet Adventure Race Simulation. In 2006 I served as the Director of Competitor Relations for Primal Quest Expedition Adventure Race Utah, the world’s premier adventure race. Most recently I was the Race Director for the Buff Betty Women’s Adventure Race (Washington DC) where over 100 women raced and completed a tough six hour course that included biking, paddling, trekking, and orienteering.
Press: I have been interviewed by and have had articles published in The Washington Post, Adventure Sports Magazine, MetroSports Magazine, and Spokes Magazine. I am also featured in the book The Thrill of Victory , The Agony of My Feet!, a collection of adventure racing stories by Neil Jamison, Maureen Moslow-Benway and Nic Stover.
