PQ Environmental Ethos
Primal Quest events are in full accordance with the United States Adventure Racing Association (USARA) publication entitled “Adventure Racing Ecological Standards” and incorporates these standards in all phases of the planning, race management and post race activities. Given these widely adopted principals, the environmental footprint of the sport, and PQ in particular, is extremely low.
Littering is a central concern not only to race organizers, but all of who care about the backcountry and parks. We are confident in the environmental ethos of all of our competitors, but to minimize the chance of any temptation to litter, we institute a strict littering policy. Racers are not allowed to litter or light fires, and the penalty is disqualification. Each team is required to dispose of their waste, including human waste, properly by utilizing provided waste bins and portajohns. We encourage each team to report any littering by other teams, which then results in disqualification. This peer reporting, and the high-stakes nature of this particular competition, abets the natural disinclination of our competitors to litter. In addition, racers are given instructions on environmental guidelines, safety, vehicle traffic management and waste disposal. We also implement a recycle program for all our transition areas in order to minimize trash and landfill impact.
We hope that anyone with any questions about our races will contact us at info@ecoprimalquest.com.
