Seth grew up in Montana, almost on the PQ Montana Race course. He spent his “youth” thoroughly exploring the wilderness, waters, and cliff faces around Yellowstone and Montana. While he attributes his love of outdoor adventure to his mom, Karen, a onetime forest ranger, he attributes his love of the endurance outdoor sports to the encouragement of his first Scoutmaster who first introduced him to the concept of thru-hiking.
Seth took his scoutmaster’s once offhand comment of advice to try thru-hiking. He graduated high school as a junior at 17 to hike the Triple Crown. His parents joke that they told him to, “Take a hike!” and he took them literally. He has since completed the Appalachian Trail and 1500 miles of the Continental Divide Trail from Canada to Colorado under the trail name of Osprey.
While in between hiking and working he fits in ultra-relays, adventure races and his Venturing Crew. Seth is the President of his crew of young men and women specializing in extreme high adventure. Their travels cross the country and the globe. He is leading 30 Scouts and Venturers on a 3 week expedition and conservation project in Costa Rica in 2009. He is a recognized high adventure trainer in the Scouting program, training adult leaders in safe execution of extreme adventures.
Seth is now 19 and an admitted student at Willamette University of Salem, Oregon.
