Two more web episodes went online at Adventure World Magazine this week, allowing fans of Primal Quest Badlands presented by SPOT to get more insights on the race and what teams were dealing with in South Dakota this past August.
Episode 3 has us catching up with teams as they get on their mountain bikes for the first time and ride through Butcher Gulch, and though they’re through the cave section, clearly it was still on their minds.
New Zealand adventure sports website Sportzvibes.com has posted an excellent video of their home team, Orion Health competing in Primal Quest Badlands presented by SPOT. The video is narrated by team captain Wayne Oxenham, who breaks down the strengths of his team, and gives some great insights into their race and the strategies that went into their successful finish.
The video is quite lengthy, and covers Orion Health through all aspects of the race, starting with mandatory gear check and running all the way through the finish of the race and beyond. It is a great synopsis of the events that went down in South Dakota, and includes some great shots of the beautiful scenery of the Black Hills and Badlands.
Newly launched online magazine World Wide has profiled Primal Quest Badlands presented by SPOT in a brief article that calls PQ “The World’s Toughest Race”. Read the story here, and then checkout the rest of World Wide’s great content as well.
The U.K. based electronic journal launched back on May 4th, and is already building a nice catalog of content including regular news stories, featured articles, gear reviews, and more. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to appeal to their sense of adventure in the photo and video sections as well.

"the [climbing] section was pretty nuts. It was 1,200 feet long. You were on these thin rock spires just trying to navigate around these while it's pitch black at midnight. It took us six to eight hours to finish the ropes section. Wiped out, no water, on the rock face. Primal Quest – Montana was the hardest AR I've done to date just because of the remoteness and the challenging nature of really the Montana landscape. The mountains were gigantic, the rivers were raging, the scree fields, the snowfields. The diversity of terrain was pretty amazing. There were plenty of moments where you're out there thinking, "What am I doing out here?" This course was the most remote challenging course that I've been on just in terms of being in the backcountry, the weather conditions we experienced and just the terrain of Montana."
