MILPITAS, CA (April 23, 2008) –  SPOT Inc., the pioneer behind the award-winning SPOT Satellite Messenger, today announced its sponsorship of the Primal Quest Montana Expedition Adventure Race.  Called the “The World’s Most Challenging Human Endurance Competition,” Primal Quest 2008 Presented by SPOT is scheduled to take place in Big Sky Country, Montana June 23 through July 2, 2008.

Primal Quest fans can follow their favorite teams at www.ecoprimalquest.com, through real-time GPS tracking and custom leader board technology provided by SPOT allowing for up-to-date viewing on SPOT enhanced Google Maps™.  This technology is based on new SPOT services that allow users to broadcast their location and messages to others over the web.  The SPOT satellite messenger will be worn by each of the 70 plus teams of adventure racers during the 10 day, multi-sport competition.

The words “primal” and “quest” probably don’t come to mind for Montanans looking forward to some leisurely springtime exercise.

But for participants in Primal Quest, an upcoming 400-mile foot, bicycle and boat race in southwestern Montana, the time is nearing to submit proof they’re up to the challenge.

April 15 is the deadline for turning in certificate-of-ability forms in mountain climbing, first aid, navigation, paddling and swimming.

Each participant must have a qualified guide or instructor sign the certificate.

Adventure World Magazine is now available online!

One magazine for all adrenaline and adventure junkies is finally available!  And, the publishers and creators of Adventure World Magazine are scouring the globe to give fellow athletes the latest and edgiest event destinations, outdoor venues, and gear on the planet.  

“This publication was launched out of a passion for the sports that Adventure World Magazine will cover in our upcoming issues,” said Clay Abney, AWM Editor-in-Chief, “We are athletes first and journalists second.”

Numerous magazines on the market today are dedicated to individual adventure sports, but there is not an all-encompassing publication for the adventure sports industry.  Abney says after researching this void for over a year he realized many athletes were craving this type of media outlet.  “I have been on dozens of messages boards, and interviewed numerous pros and race directors throughout North America,” said Abney, “and the result was a resounding desire for one entity which will cover all things in the realm of adventure and endurance sports.”

Last month we teased the arrival of the new Primal Quest Sprint Series (http://www.primalquestsprintseries.com/), a series of shorter, faster, higher energy, adrenaline-fueled sprint races brought to you by the same folks who produce the longer, harder, more intense Primal Quest expedition race.  In February, PQ management announced the dates and locations for the first three events.

 2008 will see racers, runners, mountain bikers, paddlers, triathletes and any other athlete looking for a challenging and fun experience battling it out at these exciting east coast locations: 

• May 10             - Pocahontas State Park, Chesterfield VA (registration is now open)
• September 6    - Moraine State Park, Pittsburgh, PA
• October 4        - US National Whitewater Center, Charlotte, NC

 In 2009 the Sprint Series expands from three to as many as eight total races. And while management is still working on the dates and locations for ‘09, hosting offers have poured in from more than twenty states and three countries.  Come next year you might find yourself with Primal Quest racing opportunities stretching from Maine to California, Florida to Alaska (and oh yeah, Canada, Mexico, and Costa Rica too)!  Adding to the excitement is the series’ grand prize.  The individual who earns the most points from the ’08 and ’09 seasons combined wins a FREE entry into the next year’s (2010) Primal Quest expedition race.

Elk Mountains Grand Traverse

March 29, 2008 - Crested Butte/Aspen, Colorado

While the calendar says it’s officially Spring, the Colorado Rockies are still enveloped in the deep snows of Winter. It is 12:00:01 AM and the race has just started with temperatures hovering around 32 degrees Fahrenheit. 125 teams of two have assembled in Crested Butte for the 11th edition start of the Elk Mountains Grand Traverse (EMGT). A mere 40 miles of Colorado back country lie ahead for participants before they reach the finish line at the base of Aspen (Ajax) Mountain Ski Resort. The course traces the 1880’s mail route between the once booming mining towns of Crested Butte and Aspen Colorado. The front running teams hope to have an incident free night in order to reach the finish in under eight hours but that is not typically what the EMGT doles out. Anything from gale force winds and extreme avalanche danger to equipment failures potentially await teams as they race into the dark.

PESCADERO, Calif. (TK DATE, 2008) - GoPro, a manufacturer of wearable digital cameras for sports, will be providing Digital HERO 3 wrist cameras and Helmet HERO gear mountable cameras for the Primal Quest Expedition Adventure Race June 21 - July 2, 2008.

GoPro will provide its wearable cameras and accessories to the 80-plus teams who will compete in a variety of non-motorized action sports during this summer’s race. This will allow the Primal Quest teams to capture exciting immersive video and photos while they labor through the punishing adventure race.
