Primal Quest, Redefined
Posted on 06/25/07 9:00 AM| by Will

[thumb:1861:r]Primal Quest has been called the Crown Jewel of Adventure Racing, living up to this name in both quality of race and financial expenditure. Recent decisions by Bill and Denise Watkins (founders of PQ) and Don Mann and Dawn Taylor-Mann (Director and Chief Operations Officer of PQ) will give this legendary race an opportunity to continue its billing as the greatest adventure race as well as change the financial structure so that it may remain viable in 2008 and beyond.

Primal Quest:
Primal, adj, first, original, primitive, first in importance: fundamental;
Quest, n, search, pursuit, a chivalrous enterprise in medieval romance usually involving an adventurous journey.

Letter from Don Mann
Primal Quest, Director
5/23/2007

[thumb:1723:r]Just the thought of Primal Quest, “the Super Bowl of Adventure Racing” potentially going away made me feel very uneasy. There are just too many people who are passionate about this great sport -we couldn’t let it go away.

Last year, as the PQ Course Director, I was pleased to see just how far the sport of adventure racing evolved over the years. In the early days we had Gerard Fusil’s Raid Gauloises. From it came Mark Burnett’s Eco Challenge, Geoff Hunt’s Southern Traverse our Odyssey Adventure Racing and so many other great races, but most significantly, Primal Quest emerged.
